PIC32 USB CDC Ethernet Control Model Advice

Hi, I'm a university student currently interning at a small engineering company. The internship is largely unsupervised and I've been tasked to create a USB CDC ECM device from a PIC32MZ microcontroller for ethernet over usb. I've skimmed through USB IF spec and the USB microchip library to get an understanding of the structure and so far I've taken the USB CDC single com port demo based on the ACM class and replaced all the descriptors necessary to fit the ECM class. From wireshark, I can see that the device successfully enumerates with the correct descriptors for ECM, however still shows up as a COM port on my computer even though its supposed to be unrecognized (for ECM). I'd like to get advice from the more experienced regarding this task or to tell me if I'm even in the right direction. Your help is greatly appreciated.
