MPLAB X IPE v5.05 cannot export hex file: "Please Select a Device"

So I'm suddenly having problems reading a PIC and saving to a hex file.  I select my PIC, connect up and read the memory with no problems.  But as soon as I select File>Export>Hex:

We can very clearly see I do have a device selected.
What gives?  Anyone seen this?

    Maybe you need to browse to select a hex file for export?

    Nope, I had actually already tried that.

    It shouldn't require anything in that field anyway, selecting File>Export should pull up the save dialog and let me select the name and directory to save to.  It's not dependent (or at least not SUPPOSED to be dependent) on the loaded in hex file.

    Hmm,
    So today I went to the IPE and it updated my ICD3 F/W when I connected, now the issue is gone.
    I don't know if that would have any effect, it really seemed like an IPE issue, not an ICD3 issue.  I'll throw an update in here if it comes back.

    Had the same problem on a different platform:
         Host OS = Windows 10
         Microchip IPE = v5.15
         Programmer = PICKit3
    Happened right after PICKit3 firmware was updated for the target 18F252.

    Solution:  After the programmer's FW is updated, unplug it from USB and plug it back in.  Then close IPE, start it again, and read the chip again.
    Now when one selects File, Export, Hex you will get a file system browse box instead of the misleading error message, and it'll export the file OK.
