MLA FileIO

I am involved in a project which needs an SD card interface.  Will the MLA FileIO library do it?  Are there any "gotchas?"  Any idea how much memory, SRAM and Program, does it need?  I am assuming that I should probably use the Microchip C compiler - I have previously used only assembly on 8 bit PICs.

I think you'll have to decide on a PIC family first.
We don't know what your other requirements are, so can't guess what you might choose.
You're going to have to select something that has well over 512 bytes of RAM to buffer sectors from the card.

    Hi qhb,
I do not have all the other requirements yet.  I have been looking at the 24FV32KA304.  I know it does not work on the 8 bit devices.

Use FatFs, it has far more users than FileIO and is actively maintained.  And it will run fine on 8-bit parts if you need it to.

The starting point can be maybe to read the help files.

    Hi again,
I have downloaded the latest MLA but cannot find any instructions on how to install it properly.  I am attempting to use one the "pre-built" demo programs but get lots of errors such as it cannot find some files that I know are there.
I looked in the file I/O doc but did not find anything helpful as far as installation and compiling the samples.

It always easy to install it in the default directory (windows: C/microchip/mla)
Try to compile first the supplied sample projects, they should compile with no errors if you are using the correct software versions. It  will give you lot of pain if you try to copy those folders to a different folder. It always better to package the project then you can move that zipped folder to a different directory so that you don't have to modify your original code.

    Hi Katela,

Thank you for the quick reply.  That must be my problem.  I like to control where my installs go so I know where they are as well as to limit the number of root directories.  I will un-install and then re-install into the default folders.

I have successfully compiled one of the sample projects.  The sample project has quite a few other files in both the Header Files and Source Files.  I have read the help files and they are fine for documenting the available functions.  However, I have not been able to find any information on how these other files get there or their content.
