PIC32MK1024MCF100 VBAT Pin 68 Errata Question

The PIC32MK1024MCF100 datasheet (DS60001402E, page 32), regarding pin 68, VBAT/RD8, states: "VBAT functionality is compromised, see errata for additional information. This pin should be connected to VDD."

Errata number 5 (DS80000737C, page 6), states: "The VBAT pin is non-functional and it must be connected to VDD."

What is unclear to me: Can this pin be utilized as a GPIO (RD8), or must it be connected to VDD? (There is no mention of RD8 in the errata.)

More information about my question:

The datasheet (DS60001402E, table 6, page 7) lists this pin as RD8. However the datasheet (table 1-20, page 32) says this pin is VBAT, and Note 1 below that table states that VBAT is compromised and the pin should be connected to VDD.

We are not planning to use VBAT. Can we use this pin as GPIO RD8? Is there an error in the datasheet?

Hi,
Datasheet cover both MK General Purpose devices PIC32MK___GPD__, PIC32MK___GPE__ devices,
and Motor Control devices  PIC32MK___MCF___

As far as I understand, it is only GP devices that is intended to have VBAT on Pin 68

Motor Control devices, including PIC32MK1024MCF100 isn't documented to have a VBAT pin at all,
Pin 68 on this device is RD8.

I cannot se an error in the Pinout tables 3, 4, 5 or 6  or in Table 1-6.
There seem to be a mistake in the note in page 32, beeing more general than it should be.
Similar note is repeated in several places other, where it is valid for GP devices only.

Thank you Mysil. Based on the pinout not mentioning VBAT for this device it looks like you're right. It's a bit confusing to have the same datasheet for MC and GP parts.
