Re: MPLAB IPE 5.0 not launching on Win 10
thanks for the hint and I can confirm now that this is a Win10 Display-Settings -> Scaling problem. Autoscaling and any manual scaling over 125% doesn't work on my 2560x1440 laptop display. In autoscaling mode, it didn't work on my external 1920x1200 screen either.
In times where people have high resolution displays and frequently plug in/out lower resolution external screens (actually we should be grateful to Windows to have implemented that new feature allowing such switching without manual display settings), it would be good if Microchip could also make IPE 5.05 conform (no problem with IDE 5.05). Because on high resolution displays you can't read much if you are in 100% scaling mode. Interestingly, no problem with the former 4.0 versions, which I'm continuing to use for IPE until they fix that problem.
Anyway, I don't really want to call this a bug since I know also other (and 50x more expensive) software who also have struggled with that feature with their first new versions on Win10. Microsoft keeps you busy ...
In general I like the IDE 5.05 + XC8-2.00 combination, and all hobbyists in particular should appreciate that XC-2.00 even in the free version seems to produce code at same optimization level (example: 103 kB) as the paid standard-setting in XC8-1.4x (101 kB for same example). I.e. Microchip finally dropped the code de-optimization "feature".
(though I also must say that I didn't get all my code compiled with XC8-2.00 running as compiled with XC8-1.42, but I have some very complex code so a compiler change is always problematic).
