Small Sensor Design - MTCH6102

I've successfully used the MTCH6102 on the 3x5 diamond sensor array with of 4mm square nodes as per the datasheet. but for my new project, I wish to develop a smaller 3x5 diamond sensor array but I'm looking on having the physical width of the sensor smaller.

While the datasheet mentions a minimal node around 4mm can this be made smaller?

Upon looking into this it seems that it can be made smaller in the case of NailO which uses the MTCH6301. I have attached a picture of what the sensor looks like.

Thank you for your time.

Yes, the sensor can be made smaller than 4mm, but be aware that the position tracking may not be as accurate as bigger sensors. If you only use the gesture of MTCH6102, then it should be fine.
