Watch window, SFR values always zero

Hello,
for demonstration of this issue, I made trivial project with PIC32MX370F512H with main.c that writes to SFR.
#include <xc.h>

#pragma config FNOSC = FRC // Oscillator Selection Bits (Fast RC Osc (FRC))
#pragma config IESO = ON // Internal/External Switch Over (Enabled)
#pragma config POSCMOD = OFF // Primary Oscillator Configuration (Primary osc disabled)
#pragma config WINDIS = OFF // Watchdog Timer Window Enable (Watchdog Timer is in Non-Window Mode)
#pragma config FWDTEN = OFF // Watchdog Timer Enable (WDT Disabled (SWDTEN Bit Controls))

#pragma config JTAGEN = OFF // JTAG Enable (JTAG Port Enabled)
#pragma config ICESEL = ICS_PGx1 // ICE/ICD Comm Channel Select (Communicate on PGEC1/PGED1)

volatile int x;
void main(void)
 {
 TRISB = 0x55;
 SPI1BRG = 0xAA;
 x = 1234;
 while (1);
 }

and I observe variables with debuggers PicKit3 and PicKit4. With PK3 I can see all three varaibles to be written the desired values; though PK4 displays only values of variable x, the other two SFRs are at zero.

This is just simple demonstration program; I have bigger project where peripherals like USART or SPI demonstrably work in silicon running under PK4 as debugger, but PK4 always shows zero in all SFRs.

Is anybody else facing this problem?

    Hello DevMod1,
    did you confirm this issue or is there a problem with my setup? In case of former, which release should fix it?

    We are also having this problem.
    Our setup is : ICD4, PIC32MX530F128H, MPLAB X IDE v4.20.
    Any update?

    We have replicated this and we are working on a fix, we hope to have it in the next release due out mid August.

    Have you downloaded and installed MPLAB X v5.40??  There have been many releases since this was noted in MPLAB X v4.20
