PICKIT 4

Checking through mplab x plugins, I noticed pickit 4.

Anyone know anything about it?

    When I open
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microchip\MPLABX\v4.05\mplab_ide\mdbcore\modules\com-microchip-mplab-mdbcore-PK4.jar

using NetBeans IDE many features available are visible.

I'm just sick of mplab x constantly crashing. Vanishes.
More in C than in asm.

    It has been discussed before.

It all started when I removed mplabx v4.00
Even going back to previous versions it crashes.

Seems to occur when using cut and paste and then using the arrow keys on the keyboard to move through source text.  Vanishes, Gone.

I have been putting up with this for a Year now.

I decided to look through the installed plugins.  Haven't taking anything out yet but will.

Yesterday I could even download xc16 compiler using Microchip website.
There were bad links, it is working now.  Don't need all the bing.

I am not surprised that they would be working on a PICKit 4. The 3 is relatively old and does not have enough memory for the bigger pics.

The web page and sell sheet specifically claim "High-speed USB 2.0" support, which makes me wonder if they crammed a PIC32MZ or ARM device in there.  That'd be a big step up from the PIC24F in the PICKit 3 for sure.

Yeesh, what a pain.  Fortunately the worst I see is usually just sluggishness, almost never do I get a full on crash.

Does it leave anything in the event viewer (assuming you're on Windows)?

    Hi,
    Pickit4 : http://www.microchip.com/Developmenttools/ProductDetails.aspx?PartNO=PG164140
It seems it was launched during Embedded World 2018 in Nurnberg this week.

    According to the press release...
ideal for those designing in the 8-bit space, but it is also perfectly suited for 16- and 32-bit development due, in part, to its 300 MHz, high-performance ATSAME70Q21B microcontroller on board

    Hi

Again, MCHP continues to release half backed cakes.
Now we have an SD card slot to carry large programs for high end PICs, when......only when the programmer-to-go feature is implemented via a firmware upgrade.
    * This functionality is coming soon with firmware update of the product through MPLAB X IDE.

Based on previous experience, "soon" in MCHP dictionary can be a long long time.

As always, the "evil is in the small letters".

    Best regards
    Jorge

When we get Pickit v4, that will be an excuse to update mplab x to v5.
It will still be full of bugs.

Deleting both cache does nothing and the Net Beans bug report is too long to look at.
(We need something specific, a few lines, to say what the cause was instead of a long list of bs)

I'm due to format my PC soon, haven't done that in years, maybe that will take care of some of the MC, Net Beans stuff/crap that is causing crashes. (Vanish)

The crash bug started when I installed version 4.  It was crap so I deleted it using the normal channels.

By the time they use usb3, I'll be on usb 4.

Are MC going to make Pickit 3 obsolete like they did with Pickit 2?

Seems pretty likely they would obsolete the PK3 since the PK4 is coming in at around the same price point and the 4 should in theory be the superior option.

Then again, I've never used a PK2 but I had heard they were better pieces of kit than the PK3 in a lot of ways.

    2 MPLAB PICKit 4 stickers.
I'm not 10 years old, I'm an adult.

It is about time they got rid of Net Beans and used MS VS.
