ICD 4 not recognized

I have been successfully using the ICD4 for a few months but had to reinstall Windows 10 due to a hard drive failure. After installing MPLAB X, I plugged in the ICD4 USB cable and it was immediately recognized in the device manager as "Bossa Program Port (COM3)".

I uninstalled the device and associated driver then unplugged the ICD4 and pluged it back in. The ICD4 is immediately recognized again as "Bossa Program Port (COM3)".

I have installed the latest JRE.

I have tried using the MPLAB Driver Switcher and I receive a long notice in the Driver Switcher windows which ends by saying " As such, the Switcher operations are non-applicable and hence unavailable." and my only option is "Close"

I tried manually installing the driver from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microchip\MPLABX\v4.05\Switcher\64Bit\winusb\amd64" but windows responds with "The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems."

I have another PC which has been running MPLAB X v4.05 for quite some time now. This PC has never been connected to a programmer as it is only being used for offline programming. I plugged my ICD 4 into this other PC and it was immediately listed in the device manager as "Bossa Program Port (COM3)". Is there possibly an issue with Windows 10 and the ICD 4 driver?

I AM STUCK! PLEASE HELP!

Craig

Can you try to uninstall and reinstall MPLAB X??  Also, make sure you have admin privileges as that is required to install the drivers.

We use WIN10 and ICD4 together all the time.

Wonder if maybe the ICD is stuck in bootloader mode and the "Bossa Program Port" is the bootloading interface for the ICD?  What color is the ICD4 LED when you plug it in?

Does any one know how to send back and get refund? It seams that MC has only support to sell they products but no to solve problems if they occurred!

There should be an ICD4 page here (but there isn't)
    http://www.microchip.com/cisar/Home.aspx
Maybe you could give the ICD3 instructions a try. It explains how to return it if you can't find a solution.
