MPLABX Build Fails: Permission denied

MPLABX 4.01 or 4.05
XC32 Pro 1.34

We have a computer that all of the sudden now fails build due to permission problems; it can't create the directory. If we reboot, it works the first time, and fails thereafter. We don't have this problem on any other computer.

Any ideas as to what might be causing this?

Do you have Tortoise SVN installed, or a Windows anti-virus program running a scan?
I had the exact same issue and it was caused by Tortoise SVN.

Running Windows 10. Not running TortoiseSVN. I doubt it's an anti-virus issue. The strange thing is that the account appeared to have lost administrator rights as we couldn't do a simple delete of the directory and files (after rebooting, which fixed the issue for one time until another reboot).

It appears the problem was a result of the latest Windows 10 update. (I believe Feature update to Windows 10, version 1703). After reverting the update, the problem goes away. Another engineer here had the exact same problem, and fixed it by restoring the previous version.

And that is why I have stayed with Windows 7.

    Hi,
The reason for your error message is most probably that you created a project directory at the drive level in the root directory.
Just change the directory of your project to this minimum level : C:\NotPossibleHere\Project
    Regards

No, that's not the case. We tried it in different sub-directories using released code (cloned from git repository) that had been compiled many times before without any issues.

I have windows 10, home edition, which I accidentally updated to the fall windows update and have experienced the same issue. I have my all my projects off of Users and in a place 'normal' access is granted.

After some digging I see what looks like a file permission corruption that happens when deleting files with the gnu tools installed with the MPLABS setup. It could be as simple as updating the cygwin/dll's and all would be good.
