ESP8266 vs ATWINC1500 Which one is easier to use?

Hi,

I have an application that needs to read and write to Firebase, I already set up my database and its easy to get data from firebase example - 'https://[PROJECT_ID].firebaseio.com/users/jack/name.json' - gets data for me. This is not a complex application, I dont want to make it complicated, can anyone assist?

Which module must I use and are there any simple commands to connect to a WIFI network then just read adn write data I need.

For me, the low cost of the ESP8266 and the need for a host processor for the ATWINC1500 would make this a no-brainer, though in practice, these days I'd probably start with the ESP32 for anything WIFI.
