How do I get a .hex file out of Xpress?

Just having a quick play with Xpress - I'm doing the badge for the Hackaday Supercon, which can load .hex files from a MicroSD card, so looking at Xpress as an option for people who want to hack the badge without installing MPLABX.
I've imported the project into Xpress & it appears to compile OK, but I can't figure out how to get the .hex file out of it!

If you use the Simulator / Xpress Board debug option, when you make the project it will download the HEX file.

Sorry I'm still not seeing anything that lets me save a hex file anywhere , can you elaborate..
Project properties is not showing a debug option, selecting simulator under hardware tools also shows no obvious way to save the hex file.
I'm not using the USB bridge btw -I did try installing but browser complained about it wanting an unsupported Javascript version or similar. As I don't want to use a hardware programmer I can't see that it should be necessary.

In Project Properties > Configuration > Hardware Tool, you should be able to select "Simulator / Xpress Board". Then, back in the IDE, when you "Make and Program" your project, it will download a HEX file rather than programming anything.

There is no Export HEX option yet, but the above should work. You won't need to use the programming bridge, and can use whatever type of method for programming from then on out.

I don't see a "Simulator/Xpress board" option in config, or a "Make and Program" option anywhere.
At the bottom of the screen it shows "USB Bridge disconnected" and "Programming tool disconnected"
    See screenshot.

I notice that "Simulator/Xpress board" doesn't seem to be shown as an option for 16 bit and 32 bit devices. I presume this is because there is no Xpress board for those parts yet?

Perhaps the xpress option needs enabling for all devices (whether an actual board exists or not) to work around the hex file issue?
