MPLAB X IDE 4.00 on Windows XP and co-existing with MPLAB 8

Hi,
I would like to install MPLAB X IDE 4.00 on Window XP Pro SP3.
From the release notes:
MPLAB X IDE is no longer supported on Windows XP. This means MPLAB X IDE will no longer be tested on Windows XP and JRE8 will be the new default JRE. To continue using Windows XP, JRE 7 will need to be installed. The MPLAB X IDE installer will search for JRE 7 on your system, and if it is not found will recommend sites for download.

Does anyone here run the recent versions of the MPLAB X on Windows XP?

And more importantly, will it break an existing MPLAB 8 installation? I cannot afford to break it.

Thanks.

Yep, all ok in here Smile
I.e. nothing changed since last version 3.65
I use both without special issues apart from Switching Drivers for my ICD3 from 8 to X when needed: but yesterday I tried IPE for programming a HEX generated with 8 and it does work.
Crazy interface just like the one for X (...) but it does work.

    Hi,
MPLAB X is totally different from MPLAB V8 so you can install both without any issue.
Just remember that MPLAB X is not tested on XP machines sinces several years so it may / may not work.
As you know XP support has been dropped by MS for several years.
    Regards
