PIC24FJ256GA702 UART1 receives data even when U1STA.URXN bit is disabled

I am trying to stop the receiver only, while the transmitter part of the UART1 keep working.I thought setting U1STA.URXN bit to 0 would do the job, but I still receive data.Disabling the whole UART is not an option since I want to be able to send data trought Tx while the receiver is dormant...
