New Features in this Release =============================== - General stability improvements and fixes. - Note that since this release utilizes the Windows Driver Framework 1.11 you might experience a need to reboot the system during installation or upgrade in cases in which a prior release (< 5.0) did not need it. B. Installation Instructions ============================ This release is distributed as a single self extracting installer application executable (SgfxSetup-.exe) that supports Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows Multipoint Server operating systems. For Windows Xp, Vista, 7 and 8: run the installer application and follow the onscreen instructions. Detection of the operating system architecture and type (x86/x64; Windows Xp/Vista/7/8) will be performed and the proper drivers installed. For Windows Multipoint Server 2011 (WMS2011) run the installer application in normal or maintanence mode and follow the onscreen instructions. Once installer application completes, the installer prompts for reboot which the user must perform to finalize the installation. For Windows Multipoint Server 2012 (WMS2012) there is a different installer package based on the Frame Buffer Redirection (a.k.a FBR or Custom Presenter) plug which is the Microsoft recommended software architecture to use in that OS. It is strongly recommended that you obtain and install that other FBR package instead of this one. If however you decide you still want to install this package under Windows Multipoint Server 2012 (be aware that it has beeen only minimally tested) run the installer application in maintanence mode and follow the onscreen instructions. Once installer application completes, the installer prompts for reboot which the user must perform to finalize the installation. After installation, the Control Panel's "Programs and Features" application will include two new entries: "ViewSpan" and "SMSC Core Graphics software". The "ViewSpan" entry corresponds to the OEM specific (customizable/replaceable to some extent) module, and the "SMSC Core Graphics Software" consists of a must have as-is SMSC only branded module which includes all display drivers, and which will be optionally updated in future through windows update. IMPORTANT NOTES: 1. UFX6000 / UFX7000 devices cannot operate when other vendor's USB graphics product is connected to the host system. Please disconnect the other vendor's USB graphics product when UFX is connected. Failure to do so may lead to system instability. In some cases you may encounter problems with UFX 6000/UFX7000 even if you disconnect the other vendor's USB graphics device. In that case it is recommended that besides disconnecting the hardware, you also uninstall the other vendor's USB graphics device software. 2. UFX6000 / UFX7000 Windows 8, 7 or Vista drivers require the original native display adapter in the system to be running WDDM drivers. Windows 8 requires a full fledged WDDM driver (either 1.0, 1.1 or 1.2 but CANNOT be the Microsoft Basic Display Driver). Please ensure the native display adapter has been updated to the latest available WDDM graphics drivers BEFORE installing the UFX6000 / UFX7000 software. 3. Support for Hybrid/switchable graphics architecture is a new feature included as of 3.0 release. Significant testing has been done in many Win7 platforms to ensure satisfactory operation. However, since switchable graphics is a non standardized feature, there could be some unforeseen configurations in which our current solution experiences issues. Should you experience such a situation the following are some tips that could help you overcome it untiul we can provide a solution (please make sure to report the problem to your vendor). For Windows 7 installation, if more than one native display adapter is running in the system (i.e. hybrid systems) it is recommended that if a hybrid graphics control application exists in the system, it be set to use the "Integrated graphics" mode. In that case it should not be necessary to manually disable any display adapter in device manager. If a hybrid display control panel with integrated graphics selection is not available, it is recommended that one of the display adapters be disabled for maximum compatibility and guaranteed proper operation. In the latter case if one of the native adapters is Intel, it is recommended to disable the other one. Hybrid support will continue to be improved in future releases. Windows 8 support has not yet been extensively tested with switchable graphics solutions as of this release. 5. Reboot-less install/uninstall features This release supports a reboot-less feature for Windows 8, 7 and Vista: when the installer is executed it automatically enables the UFX display which will be ready for use (in either extended or cloned mode as per section B.5) immediately without prompting or requiring a system reboot. Certain exceptions apply: - Systems where the primary display adapter does not expose a disable option (as can be seen in device manager) such as HP Elite 8740w notebook - Under Windows Vista and 7 if the version of the WDF framework running in the system at the time the installation is performed is below 1.11 (see section D.7.2 and D.10.1 for details). When uninstallation is performed for Windows 7 and Vista, all UFX modules are uninstalled and removed from the system and no reboot of the system is either prompted or required upon completion either. Some exceptions where reboot is required could occur (i.e.: primary display not exposing a disable option in device manager). For Windows XP, the XDDM display driver model technology characteristics in this operating system make it unfeasible to achieve a reboot-less installation experience. While a reboot may not be required if the installation of the software is performed while no USB display hardware devices are plugged in to the system; a reboot will be required shortly after a USB display hardware device is plugged in for the first time (and possibly an additional reboot will be required each time another new device is plugged in for the first time when more than one is used). Uninstallation of the software under Windows XP will also require a reboot due to the same previously noted XDDM limitations. 6. This release supports software updates via software first installation of a new version of the driver package. Updates to the "SMSC Core Graphics Software" module will also be offered via Microsoft Windows update when available. 7. For best compatibility and performance, it is highly RECOMMENDED to program the UFX EEPROM with the latest available reference image provided by SMSC. All the configuration parameters must be programmed through software descriptor in EEPROM. A unique serial number MUST be programmed in the EEPROM image of each device. Otherwise monitor persistency (desktop arrangement, position and resolutions) may not be mantained. Both hardware, particularly board specific configurations and software configurations can be initialized through Software descriptors in EEPROM. Please refer to the latest UfxUtility--Readme.txt document (available from SMSC's EServices) for more information on software descriptors. 8. The Viewspan software has been modified substantially when running under Windows Vista for this release. With these changes it is now only possible to set mirror mode by using the Viewspan SgfxConfig.exe system tray application. The previous method (5.1 and earlier releases) of removing the "enable this display" checkbox in the Windows display control panel to enable mirroring is no longer supported. See section D.7 for known Vista issues. 9. This 5.3.60.6579 release is WHQL certified. B.1 Configuration parameters in EEPROM -------------------------------------- Operation of several features of the Sgfx software can be customized for a device by including several optional configuration parameters and values ("Software Descriptor") at a specific offset in the EEPROM of the device. During device enumeration, Sgfx software checks for existance of the software descriptor and if it is present reads the paramaters out of it and configures it's options accordingly. Please refer to UfxUtility--Readme.txt document in the latest UfxUtility-.zip package available in SMSC's E-Services for the proper EEPROM image for yout UFX device. If an override on the automatic behavior is required (not recommended) see section B.10.1 for details. B.2 Non-Interactive (Silent) Operational mode --------------------------------------------- This release's installer application supports a non interactive (or silent) mode of operation that can be invoked by using several command line options. This mode of operation may be convenient for OEMs that will bundle the UFX software within a larger software package, invoking the UFX software programatically. Upon completion of it's execution, the UFX software will return a completion value to its caller to inform the result of the action requested. The installer package contains several modules. The "core" module which consists of display drivers, the "graphics" module allows OEM specific customization, and the "stub" executable which installs the USB drivers. Command line parameters can be applied to one or more of these modules. In order to specify accurately how each parameter should be treated an initial "module target modifier" keyword should be included to specifies which modules the parameters that follow will apply to ("general" means applies to all). 1. Win8, Win7, Vista, and XP Non-interactive Installation The following parameters are applicable for Win8, Win7, Vista, and XP operating systems. Use the following invocation (either command line or programmatic) to perform a full silent installation: SgfxSetup_.exe /core /exenoui /exelang 1033 /qn /graphics /qn /stub /noconfigui /general /noeula If a previous release is installed in the system it will be upgraded. During the installation, EULA for ViewSpan will be prompted by default. In order to prevent the Eula window from being displayed the /general /noeula option should be included. 2. WMS 2011/2012 Non-interacive installation Use the following invocation (either command line or programmatic) to perform a silent installation (with English language) for WMS2011/WMS2012: SgfxSetup-.exe /core /exelang 1033 MAXDEVICE=14 If the application wants to suppress the reboot prompt for manufacturing execution, use SgfxSetup-.exe /general /suppressreboot /core /exelang 1033 MAXDEVICE=14 Refer to section B.10.5 for more information about the MAXDEVICE parameter. 3. Non-interactive un-installation This command is applicable for all operating systems. Use the following invocation (either command line or programmatic) to perform a silent un-installation: SgfxSetup-.exe /graphics REMOVE=ALL 4. Choosing the language in Non-interactive installation. ViewSpan Installer prompts the user to select the language to be used in the GUI during installation. This prompt can be supressed by providing a language Identifier number as a parameter to the command line installer. The LIMITUI=1 option must be after the language code to perform a silent installation. SgfxSetup-.exe /exelang Use the following invocation to perform English language GUI prompts. SgfxSetup-.exe /exelang 1033 4.1 Language IDs for various languages ------------------------------------------------------------------ Language ID | Language ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1033 | English (United States) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1028 | Chinese (Traditional, Taiwan) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 2052 | Chinese (Simplified,PRC) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1036 | French (France) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1041 | Japanese (Japan) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1042 | Korean (Korea) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1026 | Bulgarian (Bulgaria) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1050 | Croatian (Croatia) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1029 | Czech (Czech Republic) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1030 | Danish (Denmark) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1043 | Dutch (Netherlands) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1035 | Finnish (Finland) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1031 | German (Germany) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1038 | Hungarian (Hungary) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1057 | Indonesian (Indonesia) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1040 | Italian (Italy) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1044 | Norwegian (Norway) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1045 | Polish (Poland) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 2070 | Portugese (Portugal) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1046 | Portugese (Brazil) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1049 | Russian (Russia) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1051 | Solvak (Solvaka) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1060 | Slovenian (Slovenia) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 3082 | Spanish (Spain) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1053 | Swedish (Sweden) ------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Return codes The SgfxSetup-.exe application returns the following codes upon completion of its execution. Return codes will be avialable only with "/general /suppressreboot" option. For an example following command must be executed with silent installaion and supress reboot options. "SgfxSetup_.exe /core /exenoui /exelang 1033 /qn /graphics /qn /stub /noconfigui /general /suppressreboot /noeula" ------------------------------------------------------------------ RETURN CODE | DESCRIPTION ------------------------------------------------------------------ 0 | The operation completed successfully ------------------------------------------------------------------ 3010 | The operation succeeded but a reboot | is required ------------------------------------------------------------------ -1 | User cancelled installation at the | installer prompts/progress bar. ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1603 | Installation is cancelled due to | user denial of permission to install | SMSC drivers | (or) | Another version of this Software is | installed. ------------------------------------------------------------------ B.3 Display Output Configuration: Automatic and Manual options -------------------------------------------------------------- This release supports per device Display output configuration. User can program the EEPROM software configuration descriptor for AUTO detect, HDMI_AV, HDMI_DVI, VGA, etc. Refer to EEPROM Software Descriptor in the latest UFXUtility--Readme.txt document available from SMSC's E-Services. B.4 USB Super-Speed Support --------------------------- UFX7000 supports USB High-Speed and Super-Speed. Speed is automatically selected via a handshake with the host as per USB 3.0 specification. This release has been tested with following adapters and accompanied drivers: Fresco FLUSB3.0-3.5.36.0 For Controllers FL1009 - FL1100 Renasas 3.0.12.101 For Controller 720202 Renasas 2.1.28.0 For Controller 720200[F1], [AF1] Intel intel_usb3.0_1.0.3.214 Super speed host controller add-in adapters must be connected to their external power supply, especially for notebooks. Problems have been observed when playing videos full screen or beyond a certain window size in with USB SuperSpeed due to a known hardware issue in an early revision of the Fresco xHCI host controller in ASUS notebooks (i.e. N53J). B.5 Default Desktop Behavior after Initial Install -------------------------------------------------- After Successful Installation: On WinXP: The UFX6000 / UFX7000 monitor will be configured in extended mode. On Vista: The UFX6000 / UFX7000 monitor will be extended (see section D.7.4 for restrictions regarding TMM in laptops). On Win7/Win8: On a laptop, Windows 7/8 will configure the UFX6000 / UFX7000 monitor as a clone (mirror) of the native LCD display On a desktop, Windows 7/8 will configure the UFX6000 / UFX7000 monitor in extended mode. B.6 Harware Acceleration for Cursor ----------------------------------- The MPW UFX6000/UFX7000 device does not support hardware cursor. Therefore for this version of the UFX device, Software cursor MUST always be used. The UFX6000/UFX7000 A0 or later, the device supports hardware cursor. Software cursor can also be used with this device, but hardware cursor is preferred. For Windows XP, hardware or software cursor selection is automatically done by the driver. For Windows 7, Cursor selection is a static value that must be selected prior to boot and cannot be automatically selected by the driver. By default the installation selects Hardware Cursor. If you are using an MPW device under Windows Vista or 7 you will NOT see any cursor in the UFX screen with this default setting. In order to change the Cursor acceleration settings - Go to C:\Program Files\Sgfx (if you accepted the default folder offered during installation, otherwise to your selection) and execute either HwCursor.reg or SwCursor.reg - Reboot the system We recommend that you contact your SMSC FAE to get a replacement evaluation board using an A4 device if you are using MPW, A0, A2 or A3 device. See the following section for instructions on how to recognize whether you have an MPW, A0, A2, A3 or A4 device. B.7 Recognizing the device: MPW, A0, A2, A3 and A4 -------------------------------------------------- The MPW device has the letters "MPW" at the end of the third line below the SMSC logo. The A0 device does not. Examples: MPW: SMSC A0: SMSC A2: SMSC UFX7000-VE UFX7000-VE UFX7000-VE A1021-APBM13 A1021-APBM13 C1050-A2P11 8G6A698S.MPW 12N6F450.01 12N6F450.10 ASE-TW ASE-TW ASE-TW A3: SMSC A4: SMSC UFX7000-VE UFX7000-VE D1042-A3P11 E1220-A4P11 12N6F450 12N503944 ASE-TW ASE-TW IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO USE THE PROPER EEPROM IMAGE FOR YOUR DEVICE's REVISION. Please refer to UfxUtility--Readme.txt document in the latest UfxUtility-.zip package available in SMSC's E-Services. B.8 HDMI Audio support ---------------------- UFX6000 / UFX7000 CEBs support audio via either analog or USB input. Different boards supports different configurations of codec to UFX interfaces (via SPDIF or I2S0). The software descriptor flags for in EEPROM can be programmed to SPDIF, or IS20. This is a device specific, and highly recommended method to initialize the audio parameter. If no value is programmed in EEPROM, then the default is "SPDIF" mode. For debugging purposes, go to C:\Program Files\Sgfx and execute AUDIOBYI2S0.reg, or AUDIOBYSPDIF.reg. and reboot B.9 Installer Product Identification information ------------------------------------------------ (This section contains information relevant for developers only) The installer uses the following upgrade code GUID: {70F436D8-E3ED-4304-8B43-09448591E9E5}. This GUID will be maintained in future releases for a seamless upgrade experience. Note that the current and previous legacy installers ("With-reboot", which are being phased out and therefore will not be fixed) did not have a fixed upgrade code defined. For more information on installer upgrades and Upgrade codes visit: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa370579(v=VS.85).aspx http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa372399(v=VS.85).aspx B.10 Installer command line configurable parameters --------------------------------------------------- It is highly recommended to do the device specific configuration through software descriptor in EEPROM. The command line parameter configuration is not recommended since it has several drawbacks. Examples of this are that it can be erased by Windows update and that the registry parameters this method uses are global and applicable to all UFX devices even if they belong to different vendors and have different hardware options. The global registry parameters can therefore cause problems in audio settings, and display output configurations when multiple different UFX based devices coexist. The SgfxSetup-.exe installer accepts command line configuration parameters as input to initalize a specific feature. These properties are applied as global for all devices. 1. Display Output configuration The display output mode for silent installation is set to Automatic selection by default. But the user can initialize to a specific output by using the DSP_PORT="Value" command line option. The "Value" can be one of the following values. HDMI_DVI, HDMI_AV, VGA,and AUTO. SgfxSetup-.exe /core DSP_PORT="AUTO" 2. EDPMS Configuration The EDPMS feature is disabled by default. To enable EDPMS, the command line input parameter EDPMS="Enable" must be used. SgfxSetup-.exe /core EDPMS="Enable" Please refer to section B.12 for more details about EDPMS. 3. ViewSpan GUI configuration ViewSpan GUI gets activated after installation automatically. If desired this can be prevented by specifiying VSCONFIG="NO" parameter during the installation. SgfxSetup-.exe /core VSCONFIG="NO" 4. Force Reboot option ViewSpan Installer can prompt the user to reboot after the installation and uninstallation with the input paramameter of /forcereboot. Use the following command to invoke the install with prompt for reboot. SgfxSetup-.exe /general /forcereboot 5. Maximum number of USB displays for WMS 2011/2012. This configuration is only applicable for the Windows Multipoint server operating system. By default, the Sgfx driver supports only up to 10 clients. Depending on the host system capabilities, if desired this can be expanded up to 14 clients. The MAXDEVICE parameter can be used for this purpose. (For non WMS versions of the operating system the default value of MAXDEVICE is 4) SgfxSetup-.exe /core MAXDEVICE=14 B.11 EDPMS feature suppport --------------------------- Enhanced Display power management scheme reduces power consumption when display/monitor is turn off. Vesa DPMS disables the display after the computer has been unused for some time(idle) to save power. User can configure the idle time by configuring the Control Panel->Power Option->Plan settings-> Turn off the display parameter. B.12 WMS 2011 Auto asociation ----------------------------- Auto association is a method to provide non-user external association of monitor with a USB hub and attached peripherals such as keyboard, and mice for a session. By default it is enabled for WMS2011. This feature has not yet been tested with WMS 2012. C. Uninstallation instructions ============================== 1. Open The Windows Control Panel (Start-> Control Panel) 2. View the categories in classic view (or by icons) and double Click the following: - For Windows XP: Add Remove Programs - For Windows Vista 7, 8, WMS2011 and WMS2012: Programs and Features 3. Scroll through the list of installed programs/software (it's alphabetical) to locate "Viewspan" item and double click it. 4. Click yes to proceed with the uninstall and follow the onscreen instructions D. Current Known Issues and Limitations ======================================= This section lists known issues and limitations of the current release. D.1 Windows Xp, Vista, 7, 8 and WMS applicable issues ----------------------------------------------------- 1. If using the original (MPW) revision of the UFX6000/7000 hardware Windows may not maintain a consistent association across reboots or USB ports due to lack of serial number support in that version of the hardware. This can result in requests by the OS to reinstall software for a previously installed device. If observed, continue the installation normally. This issue is not applicable to UFX6000/UFX7000 A0 and later revision of the hardware as long as an EEPROM with a valid serial number has been programmed. 2. Power Management is not supported in USB Super-Speed mode for MPW and A0 devices. A2 and later device is not subject to this issue. 3. Content Protected Media (Blu-ray disks) will not render on UFX6000 / UFX7000 connected monitors. 4. OpenGL is only supported in Windowed mode. 5. The software solution will handle power management events in USB2.0, but in the current release will reduce but not minimize power consumption of UFX6000 / UFX7000 device. 6. If auto port selection is enabled during installation, switching of display ports is not allowed when the system is asleep (in stand-by, suspended or hibernated). 7. UFX6000/7000 device does not support following display resolutions. * Interlaced modes. * Resolution that goes beyond 2048x1152. * Refresh frequency below 50HZ and above 85Hz. D.2 Windows 7 Hybrid/Switchable Graphics only applicable issues --------------------------------------------------------------- 1. On Alienware M11X, and on some Intel with NVIDIA Hybrid PCs, DX9 application fails to go to full screen. The application prompts "Failed to create D3D9 device" on both native and UFX display. 2. On Alienware M11X, and on some Intel with NVIDIA Hybrid PCs, DX10/11 application makes UFX display to go dark/black screen. 3. On Dell Vostro 3550 (Intel with ATI) Hybrid PCs, runnning DX9 application causes BSOD in full screen mirror mode 4. NVIDIA control panel application can not launch. -User can select GPU by righ click on the icon. 5. On Lenovo T400, user can not switch between Power Saver and High performance mode. D.3 Windows 7 and Vista Aero mode only applicable issues -------------------------------------------------------- 1. When playing videos in a window of certain sizes, moving the mouse over the playing video could result in some decrease of frame rate. 2. Repeated zero delay changes (programmatic) of resolutions in Aero mode may lead to black screens in either the UFX or the natively attached monitor in some systems. 3. While rendering a window with text content overimposed a playing video, the text can be blurred. 4. On Windows 7 Starter (SP1) version, changing mode when WMP playing video can cause primary and viewspan display go dark. D.4 Windows 8, 7 and Vista full screen D3D only applicable issues ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Pointer (Mouse cursor) will most likely not appear correctly when using software cursor - Some applications may not display the pointer at all - Some applications may display the pointer and desktop wallpaper flashing intermittenlty with the actual application screen. This issue is not applicable with hardware cursor. D.5 Windows 8, 7 and Vista Desktop Rotation only applicable issues ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1. While playing video, If desktop rotation is applied, then video shrinks on the UFX display. 2. D3D application goes out of synch in the orientation when primary is mirrored to UFX display. 3. Closing and reopening the lid on some computers shows pixelated screen for few seconds whe UFX and primary in different orientation, then proper display comes up. 4. When UFX and Primary is in different orientation, changing modes by "Windows-P" can cause the black screen back ground in the native and in the UFX display. 5. Auto rotation does not work on HP Elitebook 2760P, 2740P, and 2540P. D.6 Windows Multi Point server limitations and known issues ----------------------------------------------------------- 1. Auto association is supported only for WMS 2011 version (not WMS2010). 2. AMD systems exhibit poor audio quality. 3. One or more stations stay blank after system (server) wakes from sleep. This issues have not yet been tested under WMS 2012. D.7 Windows Vista Limitations and Known Issues ---------------------------------------------- 1. The repair option of Vista installer may not work properly in some systems. The user must remove and install the new version. 2. While installing the UFX software the system may take a very long time (more than 5 mins) to upgrade and require a reboot. The reason for this is that Vista ships with a component called Windows driver foundation (WDF) version 1.5 (or 1.7 in some service packs) which needs to be upgraded to WDF 1.11 for the UFX sofwtare to operate. This is a Microsoft WDF design requirement rather than something imposed by the UFX software. Note that upgrade to WDF 1.11 is a one time only process. 3. In some systems (such as HP Elitebook 6930p) there can be compatibility problems leading to black screens during system restart with only USB graphics display enabled, or when switching to mirror mode. This has been found to be an incompatibility/conflict between Viewspan software and Intel graphics utilities attempting to restore persistency while unaware of the existance of Viewspan USB displays. In order to overcome this problem the igfxpers.exe persistency process from Intel graphics software can be disabled as follows: a. Open control panel b. If you are not using Classic view, select "Change startup programs" from the Program group, then go to step g. If you are using the Classic view select "Windows Defender" c. Click on the "Tools" icon d. Click on the "Software Explorer" link e. Ensure the Category is set to "Startup Programs" f. Click on the "Show for all users" button g. There should be three items called "Intel (R) Common User Interface", click on each until you find the one that has the File Name: igfxpers.exe h. Press "Disable" i. A message "Are you sure you want to disable the application" will appear, make sure that the file name is correct and then press "Yes" j. Close Windows Defender and then restart the system. 4. Windows Vista ships with a feature called Transient Multimon Manager (TMM) in laptops which can autodetect and help in the configuration of new monitor arrivals. TMM may have undesireable effects on the operation of UFX software and prevent UFX to extend the dektop upon connection. If you experience any problems with TMM we recommend to disable it by: -Run task scheduler by clicking start button and typing "task scheduler" -Browse to Task Scheduler Library > Microsoft > Windows > MobilePC -Click TMM in the list at the top-center -On the right pane click disable to disable the TMM feature in Windows Vista -Reboot the system 5. ViewSpan GUI display numbers may not match up with display property display numbers. D.8 Windows Xp(x86) Limitations and Known Issues ------------------------------------------------ 1. Only 32 bits per pixel color quality is supported. 2. DirectX video acceleration must be disabled on Windows Media Player. 3. Hardware acceleration must be disabled for the Google Earth application. 4. In some notebook systems, the UFX monitor cannot be set as the only monitor or the main screen. Even if setting as main or only screen works, persistency of that setting can be lost after reboot. 5. ViewSpan driver does not officially support XP 64bit operating systems. 6. Setting View Span only mode (Projector only) may not work on all systems. 7. When 4 or more UFX monitors are connected changing mode back and forth between mirror and extended can cause monitors modes to go out of synch. 8. When multiple different size monitors are connected the ViewSpan GUI can not set positons/align properly. D.9 Windows 8 applicable issues ------------------------------- 1. In case native display's driver is built for prior release of the OS than Windows 8, the system may experience black screen on both native display and UFX display. We STRONGLY recommend to install this release with Windows 8 and WDDM 1.2 display driver that comes with Windows 8. 2. In case system has low power CPU such as ATOM processor in netbook, user may experience low graphic performance. 3. Metro-style tiled "start" screen may show partial artifacts when displayed on UFX. 4. UFX screen may not come back from sleep/hibernation when UFX monitor is in "Second Screen Only" mode. D.10 Windows 7 applicable issues -------------------------------- 1. While installing the UFX software the system may take a very long time (more than 5 mins) to upgrade and require a reboot. The reason for this is that Windows 7 ships with a component called Windows driver foundation (WDF) version 1.9 which needs to be upgraded to WDF 1.11 for the UFX sofwtare to operate. This is a Microsoft WDF design requirement rather than something imposed by the UFX software. Note that upgrade to WDF 1.11 is a one time only process. E.
