MRF Modules

The MRF Module connects to hundreds of PIC® microcontrollers via a 4-wire SPI interface and interrupt and is an ideal solution for lower-power, low data-rate Wi-Fi® sensor networks, home automation, building automation and consumer applications. The combination of the module and a PIC® MCU running the TCP/IP stack results in support for IEEE Standard 802.11 and IP services. This allows for the immediate implementation of a wireless web server.

MRF24WB0MA and MRF24WB0MB modules are agency certified IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi® radio transceiver modules. The MRF24WB0MA has an integrated PCB antenna while MRF24WB0MB has an u.FL connector for an external antenna. Both the modules have matching circuitry, and operate with the free IP protocol stack that supports a rich selection of UDP and TCP services (web server, SSL, IPv6, SNMP, SMTP client, FTP, mDNS).

TCPIP stack which supports Wi-Fi® can be downloaded from Microchip Applications Library. The stack includes Wi-Fi® example applications such as Wi-Fi® demos with EZConfig and ZeroConf functions web server, console control application, and a smartphone configuration demo (EZConfig). You can also find pre-compiled hex files in the Wi-Fi® folders for all supported development tools.

RN Modules

The RN131, an 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi® module, is a complete, ultra-low power embedded Wi-Fi® solution. The combination of ultra-low power and the ability to wake-up, connect to a wireless network, send data, and return to sleep mode in less than 100 milliseconds, allows the RN131 to run for years on two standard AAA batteries. Using only 35mA when awake and 4uA when off, this remarkable power efficiency makes possible a new class of internet-enabled products.

The RN131 is available in 2 temperature grades. The RN131G is rated for industrial operating temperatures (-40C to +85C). The RN131C has all the features and capabilities of the RN131G, but is rated for commercial temperature (0C to +70C). The RN131C is the perfect choice for those looking for a complete, low power, lower cost Wi-Fi® module.

The RN171 is a small form factor, ultra-low power embedded TCP/IP module measuring only 27 x 18 x 3.1 mm. The RN171, like the RN131, is a full-featured 802.11 b/g surface mount module. The RN171 is a standalone, complete Wi-Fi® networking module. Due to its small form factor and extremely low power consumption, it is perfect for mobile wireless applications such as asset monitoring, sensors, and portable battery operated devices.
