Ethernet is a ubiquitous, high throughput, low-cost networking technology that has become the standard for connectivity from factory floors to office environments to home entertainment systems. With Microchip’s acquisition of SMSC, we have expanded our portfolio to include products that are particularly well-suited for embedded applications supporting non-PCI designs. USB to Ethernet Controllers
The USB to Ethernet connection takes advantage of the ubiquity and speed of USB, replacing older means of transferring information. USB-based networking technology offers a cost-effective and smart design alternative to traditional PCI/PCI-Express networking solutions due to the flexibility of routing and placement of Ethernet and USB connectivity ports.
Microchip integrates Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and high-performance 10/100/1000 Ethernet in its line of standalone USB to Ethernet controllers and USB to Ethernet hub controllers.

Ethernet Transceivers
Microchip offers a family of full featured low-power, 10/100 Fast Ethernet and 10/100/100 Gigabit Ethernet transceivers. These physical layer devices feature energy efficient Ethernet (IEEE 802.3az) and Wake-on-LAN functionality, which provides system sleep modes for improved power savings. Additionally, cable diagnostics are supported which reduce network installation costs. All devices are available in both commercial (0° to 70°C) and industrial (-40° to 85°C) temperature ranges. All devices support auto-negotiation, auto-polarity correction, HP Auto-MDIX† and are compliant with IEEE 802.3, 802.3u and 802.3ab standards.

Ethernet Switches
Microchip provides a full suite of 10/100 two and three port switches for ease of implementing any network configuration. These highly integrated devices feature single or dual MII/RMII and either 16 bit or 32 bit host bus interface for maximum design flexibility. Further, these products are available in 56QFN, 72QFN and 128XVTQFP and 128TQFP packaging depending on feature configuration. All devices are available in both commercial (0° to 70°C) and industrial (-40° to 85°C) temperature ranges and support auto-negotiation, auto-polarity correction, HP Auto-MDIX† and are compliant with IEEE 802.3 and 802.3u standards. These switches combine all of the functions of a 10/100 system, including the switch fabric, packet buffers, buffer management, MACs, PHY transceivers and optional serial management functions. All devices comply with IEEE 802.3 10BASE-T and 100BASE-TX Ethernet protocol specifications, enabling compatibility with industry standard Ethernet and fast Ethernet applications.

10/100 Ethernet Controllers
Microchip offers a complete line of full-featured, single-chip 10/100 Ethernet controllers designed for embedded and industrial applications where performance, flexibility, ease of integration and system cost control are required. These products are fully IEEE 802.3 10BASE-T and 802.3u 100BASE-TX compliant, and supports HP Auto-MDIX.

ARCNET Controllers
ARCNET has many characteristics that make it ideal for industrial and embedded networking environments. This is due to the deterministic token passing scheme nature of ARCNET, its high reliability and fault tolerance, and its adaptability to a wide variety of cabling media and configurations. Microchip is the market leader in ARCNET devices and has a full spectrum of solutions to meet any customer's price and performance needs.
CircLink, an ARCNET derivative, further improves on the protocol by eliminating the need for an external processor and is optimized as a wire-replacement technology inside industrial and commercial machines.
