MPLAB® X Integrated Development Environment (IDE)
MPLAB X IDE is a software program that runs on a PC (Windows®, Mac OS®, Linux®) to develop applications for Microchip microcontrollers and digital signal controllers. It is called an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) because it provides a single integrated "environment" to develop code for embedded microcontrollers.
MPLAB X Integrated Development Environment brings a host of features to enhance the debug experience during the design phase of your project. Based on the open source NetBeans IDE from Oracle, Microchip is able to add many frequently requested features very quickly and easily, while also providing a much more extensible architecture to bring you even more new features fast – including added support for AVR devices.
MPLAB X IDE v5.0 Now Provides Beta Support For AVR® MCUs
Now users of Microchip’s 8-bit PIC® microcontrollers can evaluate AVR devices in their favorite IDE. MPLAB X IDE version 5.0 supports over 20 families of Microchip’s most popular and newest AVR devices with beta support. In addition, version 5.0 fully supports all Microchip PIC and dPIC microcontrollers as it always has. In addition to IDE support for AVR devices, debugging can be completed for AVR with Microchip’s newest, low-cost debugger, MPLAB PICkit™ 4. Two choices for compiler support are also available within MPLAB X IDE - either the MPLAB XC8 C Compiler or the AVR GCC compiler. To see a complete listing of support and restrictions, open up MPLAB X IDE v5.0 and click on the “User’s Guide & Release Notes” from the Getting Started section of Learn and Discover, then click on “Device Support List – R/Y/G Tool Support”. Get started with your evaluation of AVR products by either starting a project in Atmel START and importing it into MPLAB X IDE, or start right away inside MPLAB X IDE. Watch the short videos to help you through the process and provide tips and tricks.
