ICD3 & Windows7

I have problems to install the ICD3 driver under Windows7 64bit.
The device is recognized but the driver installation fails (no driver found).
Should the Vista64 driver work for Windows7 ?
Has somebody installed ICD3 under Win7 successfully?

Best regards
Lutz

    I am running Win7 x64 using an ICD3. I'm using v8.33 of MPLAB.

I don't remember having to do anything special to get the ICD3 working, I just installed MPLAB.

    Hi,

Please ensure that you are installing the 64-bit USB device drivers from the location C:\Program Files\Microchip\MPLAB IDE\VistaXP64 (I'm assuming MPLAB IDE is installed at C:\Program Files\Microchip).

    Hope this helps.

    Hello,
can the ICD3 install less than Windows 7 64bit completely but I can not be initialized by the MPlab.

An ICD2 under Windows 7 64bit does not cause any problems.

I have completely uninstalled all Microchip components then cleaned the registry and so on.
New installation of MPLAB, connected ICD3 and pointed to the correct directory with the 64bit drivers.
Absolutely no success. The device is shown in the list of hardware devices as
"Microchip ICD3 tm (www.microchip.com)", but the appropriate drivers are not installed.
The message is.."Driver for the device not found!"
All other hardware of my PC is "green", no problems with board or USB or something else.
    Any other ideas??

    Hi Lutz,

We have identified a problem with ICD3 and MPLAB IDE v8.40 and Window 7-64 bit. We will try and get this fixed in the next release of the MPLAB IDE.

I have verified that it works correctly on my machine with MPLAB IDE v8.36. Can you try using that as a workaround for now?

Let me know if that helps!

    All problems solved! ICD3 works with Windows7 64Bit and MPLAB 8.36 !
Don't use MPLAB 8.40, there are connection problems between MPLAB and ICD3.

OK I am having the same problem and would like to try this solution, but where do I get v8.36 from? The product page has 8.40 download and a link to an archive page, but that only goes up to 8.30. The disk that came with the ICD3 also has v8.30 on it.

I tried reverting to 8.30, but that fails in the same way as 8.40 does i.e.:

    <<
    MPLAB ICD 3 detected
    Connecting to MPLAB ICD 3...
ICD3Err0038: Failed to intialize ICD 3.

Failed to properly connect to ICD 3
    >>

    UPDATE:

I remembered that I had successfully used the ICD3 under the RC version of Windows 7. I booted back into that and confirmed it is v8.36 of MPLAB IDE and that it still works fine with the ICD3. I also did a System Restore on the release Windows 7 and reinstalled v8.30 which then required the driver to be reinstalled for the ICD3, so this seems to indicate it is the program itself at fault not the driver. So it did not work at 8.30, worked at 8.36 and did not work again at 8.40 - looks like a fix got reverted!

Unfortunately although I have 8.36 installed in my RC boot, I cannot install it on my final Windows 7 boot because I do not have the installer and cannot find it on the Microchip Web Site.

    CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP!!

There is a new DLL patch for using MPLAB ICD3 (and MPLAB REALICE) on Windows 7-64 bit on the web. This patch with the instructions to download it is in a zip file on the MPLAB Page on the Microchip website.

The link for that is here -

Let me know if you have any questions!

    Thanks,

Just a little footnote to the DLL Update (Which i hope will find its way into 8.41 grin )....

I still couldn't get this to work even after changing the dll. After rummaging around found a 'button' on the properties window of the dll the essence of which meant that Win7 had blocked its use. Clicking on the button to say the DLL was ok, then, eureka all was well.

Also, for those that want, generally, to get this working with Windows7 (64 bit) the USB drivers need to be installed manually and are found in a seperate section in the drivers folder called VISTA64. You will need to direct it to look for drivers in there NOT in the ICD2/ICD3 folders etc. I know i should have RTFM, but i needed to find the FM before i could read it grin

My experience at this point is with ICE3 connected to MP_IDE 8.43 and 8.36 (tried both) running on Windows 7 x64. I had to go and actually select the "select device from list" and point at the specific configuration file "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microchip\MPLAB IDE\VistaXP64\mchpusb.inf". This was the only thing that worked for me.

    Hello,
I am new in this webpage. I am searching a driver for the MPLAB ICD3 32 bits (Win. 7)
I think I am in the correct forum. Does anybody know where can I found it?

    King regards.
