> Use a 3rd PICkit 2 with the Logic Tool to troubleshoot IO logic.
- Fixed display issues with DPI settings other than 96 (Normal)
- Windows Vista 64-Bit OS support (beta)
- Select and copy (as text) data and addresses from the memory region displays
- Imported hex files now display if Code Protect or Data Protect configuration bits are asserted

Great job. Just downloaded it and verified the program-to-go function, works like a charm.

One quick quesiton, what's the maximum number of PICkit2(s) can be connected to a PC? How many has been tested and verified by Microchip?  What's your official recommendation?

Good question.  Theoretically, as many as will fitSmile.  Practically speaking I'm not sure.  I've tested up to 4 on WinXP.

Out of curiosity, what begs the question?

Since you can use the PICkit2 as a "free" logic tool, there is a potential to put "many" on one PC for more signal channels.

Ah, excellent idea!  One could also set the triggers so they captured successive portions of the waveform, to extend the timeframe captured on a set of channels as well.

If you run into a limit, let me know!

Unfortunately, the PICkit2 User's Guide found on the Microchip Web site is obsolete and doesn't describe any of the new v2.50 features

Curious why the PC application software development platform chose Visual studio C# instead of other language, any particular reason?
Is the V2.50 developed with Visual Studio 2005 or 2008?

Curious why the PC application software development platform chose Visual studio C# instead of other language

I use C# at work for webapps and the occasional small Windows app. For small Windows apps dot-NET almost a no-brainer. It's a great choice, in my opinion, for small apps because it's very Java-like, by which I mean it's a very powerful, complete language, yet you don't have the (C++) boobytraps of pointers, or the hassle of header files. The GUI controls are easy and the VS drag'n'drool IDE makes them even easier to use. And just about every XP or Vista install has (or should have) the dot-NET runtime.

So VS, C# & dot-NET seems a good choice to me as an easy and fast environment for tool-making... for Windows platforms. Java might have been a better choice if the aim was to support multiple platforms (windows, Linux, OSX).

    Also, VB sux.[:@] wink

I added links to the top post for the Programmer-To-Go and Logic Tool User Guide supplements.  It takes months for the main User's Guide to make it through the update process, so it will generally be a version behind.  The readme has usage info on most new features, and the supplements cover the most complex new features.

Also, the ReadMe file left out the OSCCAL support changes:
In v2.50, there are now 2 submenus for devices with an OSCCAL value instruction in the last Program Memory location:
Tools > OSCCAL > Set Manually
Tools > OSCCAL > Auto Regenerate

The Set Manually function is the same as the Tools > Set OSCCAL function in v2.40; it allows direct entry of the OSCCAL instruction value
Auto Regenerate will automatically recalibrate and set the OSCCAL instruction value.  Please note that this is intended for use with parts where the factory calibration value has been lost; the factory OSCCAL instruction value should be used if available.

Now the Logic Tool User's Guide (LTUG) URL is OK but the Programmer-To-Go UG URL is just the LTUG duplicate. I have managed to recreate a correct URL for it

After playing with the new PICkit 2 programmer V2.50 on two of my laptops, I am facing a strange issue:
The V2.50 GUI is totally gone on one of my laptop, the program can run (which can be seen on windows task bar), but no GUI display at all.
However, on another laptop with the same hardware and software, the V2.50 works just fine.

I did successfully recover the bad one back to V2.40, but cannot use V2.50 on that laptop anymore. Just curious anyone else got same issue?

The only difference I am aware of is the bad one has a V2.40 before, the good one is a fresh install with V2.50.
I also tried to reinstall the V2.50 before went back to V2.40, but no luck at all.

    Regards,

It may be that the v2.50 window got moved off screen so you couldn't see it anymore.  Since v2.50 remembers the screen location, it would always open offscreen.

Uninstall any current version using Add/Remove Programs in the control panel, and be sure to delete the installation folder (program files\microchip\pickit2 v2) to delete the INI file.  Then re-install v2.50.

Per the ReadMe file, in the future just delete the INI file (when the application is closed) when a unrecoverable display issue occurs.  This will reset everything to default.

    PS - For Vista Users:
Vista may put the INI file in a different directory than the install folder.  See the PICkit 2 Readme "Operating System Support List" for where to find the INI file in Vista.
