Module USB-TTL CP2102 with PIC

Hi, I would like to know if someone already used a module like this to communicate serial with pc.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/U...mp;hash=item1e6601725f

Does this work fine?

Thank You.

    Here the link opens fine.
But you can search for "usb ttl cp2102".
Almost all are similar, but look at the red ones.

    Thanks.

I don't see why not, but the cost is so small try it and see.  What are you using at the non pc end?

I already bought one a few weeks ago, but I need one really fast, and my country's mail are in strike.
I can buy in my city, but here it is really expensive(they buy from ebay and resell here).
Thats why I would like to know for sure that it works. So I will buy here.

My english isn't that great and I didn't understood what you mean by "non pc end".

    But here's what I need:
I will make a software on C++ Builder, and need to communicate to the PIC.
I have a plugin(TComPort) on C++ Builder that emulates a COM port trought the USB. (I know the plugin works with the FTDI 232).

I'm starting on PIC comunication now, and have 3 weeks to finish a school project.
So I'm thinking to use the C18 Library "usart.h" with these module.

Thanks. Any tips are very helpfull.

You can use that device, there no reason it do not works. Once you load the driver related at http://www.silabs.com/Sup...chnicalDocs/cp2102.pdf then it is ready for use. You have to connect to PIC USART pins TX and RX (crossed), no level translator is need. The handshake pins have to be connected RTS-CTS and DSR-DTR if you try to use Hyperterminal application for test. You can start up an USART aplication very fast using maestro sample Microchip supplied and if you are in a hurry then it is better use PIC18F452 or PIC18F252 that maestro sample is designed for. Good luck

    Thanks jgmartinez,

When you say connect the USART pins crossed you mean the RX pin of the pic on the TX of the module, right?
Would be great first test with Hyperterminal, but from where did you took these pins RTS-CTS and DSR-DTR?

    Thank you!

    Yes

These pins and RI, DCD pins are available in the chip, so the module you try to buy will have too. Nevertheless hyperterminal configured no HW protocol will work independent of these pins connection. Is a good practice the NULL MODEM connection is HW flow control is not going to be used.
