ICD3 Missing Device Database error

After using the ICD3 for several weeks, one day we started
getting this message after connecting to the ICD3:

The MPLAB ICD 3 is missing its Device Database. Please reconnect
to the PC and try again.

we assumed that the missing device database was stored on the PC (wrong!)
and that somehow the ICD3 was misreading the device ID then trying to look up a bad ID and
finding nothing.  Turns out that was completely wrong.  What this message really means is that
the ICD3 has somehow lost some of its stored data and needs to have that data downloaded to
it.  There is an option to do this manually in the "setup" menu section of the programmer.  We had
two devices that were both giving this error.  We thought we had somehow damaged them.
Downloading the firmware manually (the .jam file) fixed both of them.  Just don't want anyone else
to lose time because of this.  Using MPLAB 8.43 IIRC.
