When using IPE 4.15 / 4.20, IPE displays the following message and then becomes brick

Connecting to MPLAB PICkit 4...

Currently loaded versions:
Boot version...................01.00.00

Now Downloading new Firmware for target device: PIC16F677
Updating firmware application...

PICKit 4 timeout out during the firmware download process.
Connection Failed.
Transmission on endpoint 2 failed
-----------------------------------------
The recovery mode only works for some computer , however, pickit 4 will brick again after the next trial

Now you know, why the box is black, and current logo of Mplab looks like a coffin ;)

Seriously, check is this device covered by PICKIT4, or not (yet). Try with another project (another device).

Have you tried using the PICkit 4 and that device using MPLAB X and not the IPE??  this could be an IPE only issue.

    Hi

It looks like Microchip as been to the Micro$oft school.
Time to market is more important than properly finishing the product.

We would better play safe. If its working, don't upgrade/update.
New products only after the release of service pack 1, at least.

Peace of mind, for me and my costumers, is more important than the "latest bells and whistles, and, for sure, you won't catch me playing the ginny pig part.

Microchip still repeats, how many months constant sale increase they have THANKS TO SMALL CUSTOMERS.
    Very nice.
But with current politics situation can change.
How long Microchip can ignore signals, that Mplab X is a scrap? How long users will buy old microprocessors, working with old tools?

There is a firmware emergency recovery utility in MPLAB X IDE; i had to use it yesterday after my PICKit 4 went from purple using the IPE to green and 'sulking', then showed up in windows as a USB 2.0 interface when i plugged it in!
it is described in the User guide, and requires the use of a paper clip (high tech huh?)
