Problem installing drivers for ZENA adapter

Hello, me again,

I have also just purchased the ZENA Wireless Adapter, 2.4GHz, MRF24J40,  Part number AC182015-1
I have also downloaded and installed Wireless Development Studio v4.2.
The files have been installed by default at:
      C:\Program Files (x86)\Microchip\Wireless Development Studio\

According to the Zena Guide (pg 16), when the Adapter is plugged in Windows should
prompt for hardware, ie USB driver, installation.  That is, it should open a "New found Hardware Wizard" window.
But this does not happen!
The Control Panel > Devices and Printers shows the ZENA Adapter, but says:
"Drivers for this device are not installed (code 28)"

Can you advise me on how to install the drivers?
My PC is on Windows10.

Many thanks,   Ken.

The driver isn't signed, so it won't install on Windows 10 without jumping through hoops.  It will install on an older version of Windows if you have it.  This is what I did to get it to install:
    1. In an administrator shell, do: shutdown /r /o /f /t 00
    2. Click the "OK" button
    3. System will restart to a "Choose an option" screen
    4. Select "Troubleshoot"
    5. Select "Advanced options"
    6. Select "Windows Startup Settings"
    7. Click "Restart" button
    8. System will restart to "Advanced Boot Options" screen
    9. Select "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement"
When installing the driver, click the parent directory, not the amd64
    directory:
    <path>\Wireless Development Studio\Driver and Inf\ZENA Wireless Adapter 2.4 GHz MRF24J40

And I've found that some of the major Windows updates will uninstall the driver, forcing you to go through all that nonsense again.

    Thanks for quick reply.
I have followed your instructions, and have Disabled Driver Signature Enforcement.
But to no avail; no New found Hardware Wizard appears when I insert the Zena, nor
anything else inviting me to install drivers.  Everything seems to be same as before.

You have to manually install the driver in device manager with the "Update Driver" option.

Ah, yes, I am aware of that.  But the properties panel says:
"There are no compatible drivers for this device",
and the Update driver button is not enabled, or at least nothing
happens when I click on it.

Did you subsequently reboot?  I think the procedure above is only valid until the next reboot.

The procedure itself involved a reboot, but after that I have not had a subsequent reboot.

    Hello,
After much time and effort I have managed to install the drivers.
Here is the complete procedure; it incorporates info from replies above, plus info from other forum posts.
I hope that putting it all in one post reply will help others.

HOW TO INSTALL THE DRIVERS FOR ZENA WIRELESS ADAPTER

First, you must install the Wireless Development System, as that tool has the required drivers.
It places the driver file at:
       C:\Program Files (x86)\Microchip\Wireless Development Studio\Driver and Inf\ZENA Wireless Adapter 2.4 GHz MRF24J40\
and the filename is:   ZENA Adapter 2.4GHz MRF24J40 .inf

Second, the driver isn't signed, so it won't install on Windows 10 without jumping through hoops.
It will install on an older version of Windows if you have it.
This is what to do to get it to install on Windows 10:
        In an administrator command shell, enter: shutdown /r /o /f /t 00
        Click the "OK" button
System will restart to a "Choose an option" screen
        Select "Troubleshoot"
        Select "Advanced options"
        Select "Windows Startup Settings"
        Click "Restart" button
System will restart to "Advanced Boot Options" screen
        Select "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement"
        PC will now restart.

    Open Device Manager,
this is found under Start -> Computer Management, then select Device Manager.

    Plug in the ZENA adapter,
it should appear under Other Devices.
    Double click on it.
    Select Update Drivers,
then select "Browse my computer for driver software"
      Browse to:
         C:\Program Files (x86)\Microchip\Wireless Development Studio\Driver and Inf\ZENA Wireless Adapter 2.4 GHz MRF24J40\
(Do not select the amd64 or i386 folders)
         and OK.
A warning will appear; select Install anyway.
Device Status should now say:   Device is working properly.

Some of the major Windows updates will uninstall the driver, forcing you to go through all that nonsense again.
