Thank you all for your input, and because of that input I was able to learn a lot about pointers but it was also apparent that I had a GCE (gross conceptual error) and scrapped the idea. I did do some research last night and found  Menu Structure. I am studying this and trying adapt to my application, and I feel will afford a good learning opportunity for me as you all have.

I think there are as many different ways to do a menu as there are programmers.

An enum list is a compile-time list of constant values, it does not define a variable or constant that you can point to with a pointer.
In your code, Opmenu is a member of the enum list, so it is a constant (0x00 in this case), not a variable, so the statement -
Opmenu = pdisplay 
should cause a compile-time error, especially as it's not even spelt the same way in both places!
