XC16 accessing my Floppy disk when compiling ?

Hi guys. Somebody has yet a legacy Floppy disk Drive in his computer ? It's my case!

What a surprise! when I go to compile my code then the FDD light blinks and motors turn on and  seeks... what thing? hahahaha. This is a bug of this new version ?

Regards!

I too have one on my PC, but I disconnected its cables time ago. I may try later...

I have one. But attached via USB when necessary.
Seems they've got some I/O running wild. Or searching the license file virtually "everywhere". You might want to check your license setup.

Ummmm. I downloaded the license bat file in microchip webpage, then was execute it and this generated a license file .lic. Then I copy it in XC16/bin folder, but problem persists. The license is really working because when I compile with optimization, it do it.

Where can I change the seeking license path? In windows enviroment path variable, it's already defined.

Is your floppy in Windows' search path too? Might be the reason.
As I assume you normally would not want the floppy to be searched, you could remove this (if applicable).

Nooo, floppy is not in windows search path. I check in MPLAB licenses path for XC16 license, and it is in C:\ProgramData\Microchip\xclm\license. License is in that folder (microchip-1.lic) so... Seems the access to FDD is not due to license seeking.

    What's a floppy disk? 2017

Yeah, I have the same problem, If I compile a library, it compiles immediately.

If I compile a main project, all my mech. drives start up before the compile.

All Microchip related code on ssd C drive.

Windows environment variables and tmp/temp are on c drive.

    NO - a "floppy disk" is NOT "2017". Maybe "G...2015" ?
Sounds like it is checking your computer for function. Should we be grateful ?

Ah.. thanks! I am not alone ^^. I does put a diskette inside drive.. the led blinks but does not make noises. (but is not the solution :-p)

    Try #define
    i.e. SUBST A: <else>
or what it used to be... !

Or searching the license file virtually "everywhere".

Actually I think this is (indirectly) possibly the cause.

The license manager is supposed to skip A: and B: when checking for the presence of a dongle (which is actually just a USB Flash drive holding a license key tied to that Flash drive's serial number), but I've heard a report of a popup dialog asking for a disk (on a VM). I think it's related to something that gets into the Windows Registry over a period of operation, because it does not happen on a fresh Windows install.

You can confirm this is the case using "Process Monitor " from https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/

I might set security essentials to ignore scanning of the mplab x folder.

    Maybe that would fix it.

    Start SE.
Settings->excluded files and locations then browse.

browse to local disk c ->Microchip

    You browse then add.

If you don't have it installed then that won't fix other drives getting accessed.

You might have other security software installed.

SE is on the Microsoft website.

I am using just Avast! antivirus. Disabling it, the problem persists :-\

One of my colleagues had a similar issue and he was able to fix it by uninstall and reinstall MPLABX.
