MPLAB-X V4.00 Does not fold code blocks on "for", "if", "do-while" etc.

The MPLAB-X editor code folding only seems to fold the entire block of code, or nothing at all.  Most other IDE code editors allow folding on "for", "if", "switch", "do-while" blocks etc. and some even recognise user-scope "{ }" blocks as well, but not MPLAB-X. As it stands, MPLAB-X code folding is pretty useless, unless you want to fold just comments or all of your code, in which case it works very well!  Hopefully this will be fixed in the next update / release ?

MPLAB is still far behind the likes of Visual Studio with intellisense features.

MPLAB X is not VS that's for sure.

For something that's supposedly meant for professional work it sure does feel like I'm working with an amateur toy a little too often.

    Agree, especially the file handling.
How the fu ck can you release software that is broken, release a new version and still not bother to fix the previous bugs while creating more.

    It's not professional like VS.

Visual Studio is in a different league but then it's used by major players.

I wonder what tools the not "major players" use when they buy and use the 2+ billion USD worth of Microchip chips per year ?

Hey guys, I'm not having a moan here, just stating a fact, and in a round-about way, asking Microchip if they're going to fix a bug?
Saying that, I agree that MPLAB is still a relative 'toy' compared to the much better IDEs out there, VS and Eclipse especially.  VS has always had really good intelli-sense handling and Eclipse is not far behind.

    2 billion worth of cat-flaps.

Why isn't the software up to standard then?

Bugs are one thing, "unbelievable design choices" are another (and IMO more important)

netbeans was supposed to be the up and coming number 2 at one time.
his issue maybe more in that area.  A goggle of that issue with Netbeans not MPlabX may give some answers.

Sometimes I feel like I'm better off with Windows notepad as an editor.

But they are giving a raw deal to users. They just care about selling their hardware

I wonder why Microchip didn't write an Eclipse plugin and let us use that IDE instead?  Eclipse takes a bit of getting used to, but it has a fantastic editor that does everything and more, and a good and stable debug interface.

I heard they were going to move Atmel CPU tools (currently based on Visual Studio) to MPLAB-X.
