Background Scanning of Projects

What's with my mplab ide 3.51 doing this "Background Scanning of Projects" in the lower left corner.  Every time I exit IDE it tells me "Background Scanning of Projects" will be canceled, but it sits there saying 100%.  It also seems to be noticeably slower in the last 2 days, especially connecting to the ICD.  I did get a windows update (win 7) but I restored to previous and turned updates off.  Anyway, its slowed down all of a sudden and this "Background Scanning of Projects" is new.
Thanks,
Andy Bradley

    "Background" scanning is one of my biggest bugbears of MPLAB IDE/Netbeans, especially as there's no way to turn it off: there are odd posts about turning it off around but none of them work. It's a big resource hog, and sometimes it fails to work anyway, without giving a warning, particularly on lower spec machines.

    It's difficult to know why there's no end user option to turn it off explicitly, there's a million other far less useful things you can tweak distributed randomly all over its UI.

    Yea I only have 1 prj open and it didn't do this at first.  The pc has almost nothing on it anymore, besides mplab and it i7 win7.  The only things that changed were I installed xc8 after some time and win did an update.  I did a restore and turned updates off.  This is really unuseable and it doesn't look like there's a fix.  What should take a few seconds takes 3 to 5 minutes.  I'm going to have to wipe everything and go back in mplab time.

    You can try deleting the two cache folders and see if it helps. They are both listed in the about box

    When it's scanning, I think you can right click and cancel.

    If not:

    tools->options->Miscellaneous->Files

    Tick Box: Enable auto-scanning of sources

    Hi,
    It could also come from the antivirus....Make sure to exclude some of the MPLAB X directories to avoid having them scanned (there are some posts on this).

    It's a well known Netbeans issue, and has been for years. Happens with java projects too.
    It's never been fixed.

    I had the same problem and I found a solution that worked for me.  I just added the line below to the file mpalb_ide.conf in the line default_options (line 52 for mplab X ver 3.55)

    -J-Dnetbeans.indexing.recursiveListeners=false

    I hope this works for you too guys.
